Md. Leads Nation In Toddler Vaccinations

BALTIMORE (AP) ―

Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show Maryland is leading the nation in vaccination rates for young children.

More than 91 percent of Maryland children between 19- and 35 months of age receive the common vaccinations. The national average is about 77 percent.

Maryland health officials say the state's high rate is a result of strong local public health efforts and a program that provides free vaccinations to eligible children. State officials say even higher rates could be achieved if more doctors used an immunization database that allows doctors to check a child's vaccination records.
