Peter Angelos doesn't just own the Baltimore Orioles, he's one of the most successful lawyers in the country.
The 1961 graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School has given the university its largest single gift ever, $5 million. It's a dollar for dollar matching pledge to help build a $107 million law building at the corner of North Charles Street and Mt. Royal Avenue.
"We are truly appreciative of Peter Angelos' generosity and support. His decision to give back to the institution where he received his professional training is in the best tradition of philanthropy," said University President Robert Bogomolny.
The university has already raised $1.25 million in matching grants.
The A.S. Abell Foundation will fund a $150,000 design competition for the new building.
The new building will bear the name of Angelos' parents: The John and Frances Angelos Law Center.
The new law school building is expected to open in the summer of 2012.
