Guilty Plea Entered In UMBC Corruption Case
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
A Baltimore construction company's former general manager has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a corruption probe at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler says 53-year-old Scott Wallick took part in a conspiracy to bribe UMBC's manager of construction services, George Alinsod.
Wallick was sentenced to a suspended two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised probation. He also was fined $5,000 and ordered to complete 120 hours of community service.
Six other people have been convicted in the scheme. Wallick and sales engineers from Siemens Building Technologies negotiated service contracts with Alinsod.
Prosecutors say the scheme inflated the costs of the contracts and used excess money to buy gifts for Alinsod.
