Local Agencies & Businesses Turn To Twitter

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― People use Twitter and other sites for social networking.

But as Kai Jackson reports, there's now a network of agencies and businesses using Twitter as a tool to keep you informed.

At One World Cafe in North Baltimore, Wi-Fi keeps people connected, and the social networking site Twitter is one of the links.

"All I know it's a way to let people know what you're doing, when you're doing it every minute of every day," said Rebecca Hauss, Johns Hopkins senior.

But Twitter is being used by more than just BFFs. Baltimore City Police, the FBI, Anne Arundel County Police and even Baltimore Main Street are all using Twitter.

"So far we have about 1,400 followers, and I strongly encourage everyone to sign up. We put out traffic information, crime alerts, crime statistics. Basically it's the BPD on your cell phone," said Anthony Guglielmi, Baltimore Police spokesperson.

Several local businesses also use the site. Among them are the National Aquarium, the Maryland Zoo, the Orioles and the Hippodrome.
