About 5,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will enjoy a comfort from home this holiday season, thanks to an operation spearheaded by a Maryland father.
It's called "Operation Christmas Tree." And Saturday, more than 300 volunteers got together in Westminster to assemble and pack the five-thousand trees.
The Armed Forces Foundation and Congressman Roscoe Bartlett worked together to help expand the program.
Jim Ward, whose daughter has served in Iraq for the past 18 months, launched Operation Christmas Tree last year and sent 75 trees overseas.
Each tree comes with lights, ornaments, a Christmas card and a phone card.
