Boy Dies After He's Hit With Falling Tree Branch

SEVERN, Md. (AP) ― A 7-year-old boy has died after being hit in the head by a falling tree branch.

Anne Arundel police say Steven Richards was walking in the driveway of his home in the 7900 block of Telegraph Road about 5 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck by the tree branch. The limb was about four inches to five inches in diameter and fell 25 feet to 30 feet.

It was unclear what caused the branch to fall.

The child was flown to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating.
