Woman Charged In Collision On Railroad Tracks

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―

Frederick police have filed charges against a local woman who drove onto railroad tracks early Tuesday morning, causing her car to be struck by a slow-moving MARC commuter train.

Police say 50-year-old Barbara Mulligan was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medications when she drove onto the tracks on East South Street about 5:15 a.m.

She told police she became confused when the signal arms lit up and began to descend. Mulligan said she tried to stop, but slid on the wet road and went under the arm. When she tried to turn around, she ended up on the tracks.

The train hit the car as she was trying to get away, knocking her to the ground.

The woman suffered only minor injuries.
