Old Train Station Now Home For Model Railroading
SHARPSBURG, Md. (AP) ―
Trains are running again at the Antietam train station.
The Hagerstown Model Railroad Museum, Inc. is restoring the building and has begun using it for model train layouts. The organization also plans to add a historical exhibit about railroads.
President Jeff Jones says the station closed in 1950 and was converted into apartments before it was eventually acquired by the Washington County government. The county donated it to the town of Sharpsburg, which is leasing it to the museum organization for $1 a year.
The station will be open to the public every Sunday afternoon this month. Admission is $2 for adults and free for children under 12.
