Niagara 79, Towson 62
LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) ―
Tyrone Lewis scored 20 points to lead Niagara to a 79-62 win over Towson on Sunday night in the Philly Hoop Group Classic.
The 5'11" junior guard added a career-high and tournament-record eight blocked shots. Rob Garrison had 14 points and a game-high seven assists for Niagara (1-0).
Benson Egemonye added 14 points and 16 rebounds and Anthony Nelson scored 13 points. Bilal Benn added 11 rebounds.
Lewis scored 10 straight points for Niagara in 85 seconds, highlighted by two 3-point field goals and two dunks, as Niagara built a 37-24 lead with 2:54 to play in the first half.
Niagara led 42-31 at halftime as Lewis scored 13.
Towson (1-1) was led by Troy Franklin's 19 points. Brian Morris added 15 points.
Towson was without Junior Hairston, the team's leading scorer and rebounder last season. He and Rick Brown were suspended for violations of team rules.
