Ex-D.C. Fire Captain Acquitted of Rape Charges
WASHINGTON (AP) ―
A former D.C. fire captain has been acquitted of rape and sex offense charges during his second trial for allegedly assaulting his stepdaughter's friend.
A Calvert County jury found Maryland resident Tony Sneed not guilty Friday after six hours of deliberation.
Sneed, 49, had been convicted in June 2009 of second-degree rape for allegedly sexually assaulting the 23-year-old woman who had passed out during a party at his stepdaughter's Calvert County, Md. home.
A judge subsequently ordered a new trial for reasons including the judge's misreading of a jury instruction.
Sneed resigned from the fire department after the charges from the August 2008 incident were filed. His attorney said Sneed and the woman had both had too much to drink and neither could remember what happened.
