Judge Pleads Guilty To Vehicle Tampering
LA PLATA, Md. (AP) ―
A Maryland judge was given a $500 fine for tampering with a vehicle after he entered a guilty plea Wednesday at the courthouse where he usually presides.
Charles County Circuit Judge Robert C. Nalley apologized for deflating the tire of a cleaning woman who parked in a restricted zone at the courthouse. He said he was ashamed of the conduct and "embarrassed for the community."
A visiting judge gave him the fine and sentenced him to probation before judgment, meaning he won't have the conviction on his record.
Judge Robert Wilcox also required Nalley to write a "heartfelt letter of apology" to Jean Washington, the woman whose tire he deflated.
Nalley could face sanctions from Maryland's Commission on Judicial Disabilities.
Since the Aug. 10 incident, Nalley has been suspended from hearing criminal cases.
