Police: Man Hit With Tire Iron In Robbery Attempt

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―

Frederick police say a man was hit with a tire iron during an attempted robbery.

It happened around 2 a.m. Sunday in the area of Hillcrest Drive.

Police say a group of teens approached the man and demanded his money, but when he refused, one hit him with a metal rod believed to be a tire iron.

Officers found a group of teens and the victim identified one as the teen who attacked him.

That teen, Van Johnson Weedon Jr., was charged as an adult with attempted robbery, assault and other charges.

Police say the man who was attacked was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital and treated for a possible broken arm and a cut to the face.
