Prince George's County police say four teenagers have been charged with beating a man to death over a pack of cigarettes and a shoe.
The teens have been charged as adults with first- and second- degree murder.
In court documents Monday, police said the apparently unprovoked attack began about 7:30 p.m. May 28 after the teens spotted 56-year-old Aboubacar Camara, of Hyattsville, climbing stairs that lead from a playground to the back of Bladensburg Elementary School.
Police say one of the teens asked the man whether he had a cigarette.
When Camara replied that he didn't smoke, another teen bumped him in the shoulder, knocking him to the ground.
Police say the teens kicked Camara in the head and torso and stole a pack of Marlboro cigarettes and his shoe.
Police say Camara died from his injuries two days after the attack.
