Md. Gives $1M For Garrett Tech Training Center

ACCIDENT, Md. (AP) ―

The O'Malley administration says it is awarding a million-dollar grant to help establish a Career and Technology Training Center in the Garrett County town of Accident.

The Department of Business and Economic Development says Garrett County will contribute another $500,000 to the center, where students will learn welding, machining, metal fabrication, carpentry and other trades.

Tuition for Garrett County high school graduates and GED holders will be free for two years under a county program that encourages young adults to stay in the area.

The free-tuition offer has been available since 2006 to students at Garrett College in McHenry.
