School Officer Uses Taser On Teen At High School

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a resource officer used a taser to subdue a student for the first time since the officers began carrying the devices last spring.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jennifer Bailey says Corporal Jody Maybush used the taser on Thursday at Tuscarora High School when a teen tried to keep Maybush from taking his sister to the office after a fight.

Court documents state 18-year-old Dereck Holland put his arms around his sister, and refused to let go when Maybush ordered him to.

After a warning, Maybush gave what Bailey called a low shock and Holland ran down a hall before collapsing.

Holland was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital and then to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

He is charged with disorderly conduct and several other charges.
