Jury Says Deputy Was Justified In Taser Incident

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―

A Frederick County grand jury has ruled that a county sheriff's deputy was justified in using a Taser to subdue a man who later died.

The grand jury issued its ruling Friday. It concluded that Corporal Rudy Torres was following protocol when he used the electronic stun gun to shock 20-year-old Jarrel Gray in November.

Torres delivered two shocks with the Taser, 23 seconds apart, after Gray did not obey the deputy's commands to show his hands.

Gray had been involved in a fight. He died hours after receiving the shocks.
