Resolution Would Deny Sanctuary To Illegals

TANEYTOWN, Md. (AP) ―

Taneytown Councilman Paul Chamberlain plans to introduce a resolution Wednesday declaring the Carroll County community is not a so-called "sanctuary city" for illegal immigrants.

Communities that designate themselves "sanctuary cities" bar local police from cooperating with federal immigration officials in their efforts to track and deport people who are in the country illegally.

Chamberlain says he is sponsoring the resolution to have the city take a stand against illegal immigration. He says the council could take a final vote on the resolution next Monday.

Chamberlain sponsored a resolution last year declaring English the town's official language.
