Balt. Clinic Provides 2,000 Doses Of H1N1 Vaccine

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. (WJZ) ― There's good news when it comes to the H1N1 vaccine shortage in Maryland. The governor has issued an executive order allowing all medical professionals to give vaccinations in case of an emergency.

Jessica Kartalija reports this comes as another clinic is providing 2,000 doses of the vaccine in Baltimore City.

Saturday for some meant another long line to get the H1N1 vaccine.

"My daughter and son I think had it, and so we thought it would be a good idea that everybody that could get vaccinated in the family get vaccinated," said David Digiorgio, parent.

In Baltimore City, people arrived just after midnight Saturday to get vaccinated.

"We're aiming to see 2,000 people. We've packed a little bit more," said Dr. Anne Bailowitz, Baltimore City Health Department.

The clinic focussed on the top five priority groups, those most at risk for contracting the virus.

"Pregnant women, folks who take care of kids under six months, kids who are six months through 24 years of age, 25 through 64 with diseases and finally, health care workers," said Bailowitz.

This as the state receives more than 7,000 vaccines and Governor Martin O'Malley launches the first H1N1 video update on the state health department website.

While these clinics are first come first served, and are free, city health officials urge people to consult their doctor before getting any kind of flu vaccine.

"The gold standard is always your own doctor. No one in the world knows your health better than that person, and that is the best source, if possible, to be immunized at," said Bailowitz. The next city flu clinic will be held at Camden Yards next week.
