Harf. Co. Deputies Capture Armed Robbery Suspect

CHURCHVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ― Harford County Sheriff's deputies have arrested John Robert Shultz, 35, of the 1800-block of Cape May Road in connection with two armed robberies.

On Jan. 20 at 11:37 p.m., deputies responded to the Royal Farms in the 2900-block of Churchville Road in reference to a reported armed robbery. Stolen during the robbery were 39 cartons of cigarettes and $80 in cash. The suspect was described as a white male in his early 30s, approximately 5'8" tall, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and a blue baseball cap.


On Jan. 22 at 2:36 a.m. deputies responded to the 7-11 in the 1300-block of East Churchville Road in Bel Air for a reported robbery. A carton of cigarettes, food, and approximately $500 in cash were stolen during the robbery. The suspect ordered the clerk to leave the store and walk toward the road. The clerk was able to provide a description and license number of the vehicle the suspect was driving and of a woman sitting in the passenger seat. The suspect was described as a white male in his early 30s, approximately 5'4" tall, with reddish or light colored hair and a heavy hair growth under his bottom lip.

Detectives tracked the vehicle to a hotel in Baltimore County where they where able to identify the occupants of the suspected vehicle. Through further investigation detectives determined John Robert Shultz was the driver of the vehicle and was identified as the suspect in both of the armed robberies.

A warrant was issued on Jan. 22 for Shultz's arrest in connection with the robberies charging him with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of theft over $500, using a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and first- degree assault.

Schultz was arrested at 8:30 p.m. in Baltimore City without incident and transported to the Harford County Detention Center for processing and is currently being held without bond.  A bond review is scheduled for Monday.
