Storms Cause Damage Here In Md.

HERALD HARBOR, Md. This afternoon's storms created a mess for many people throughout the state.

Kelly McPherson reports in Anne Arundel County many people were left without power due to downed trees and power lines.

Herald's Harbor in Crownsville got hit hard, but for residents the storm came out of nowhere.

"I've been here for about 35 years and I've never seen a rain like that," said Bill Hill, Resident."The rain was sideways, the trees were bending over sideways."

No one inside a home on Hill Road was hurt when a cluster of trees slammed into the roof.

"There is significant damage, it's uninhabitable. The Red Cross has been called for this family," says Captain Debbie Bowen, Anne Arundel County Fire.

The Fire Department says about 100 homes in the immediate area are without power since the large trees tore down so many power lines.

Those who escaped property damage still were able to talk about experiencing the unique storm.

"I watch the storms all the time. I mean I stand out in them like a nut, look up and I'm telling you, I've never seen it rain sideways," said Nelson Parmer, Resident.

On one side you look out the window it was sunny, the other side it was dark," said Joey Hill, Resident.

As rain still soaks the ground neighbors know other trees could be unstable.

"A lot of tulip poppers in this area, such as that one over there," said Scott Hymes, Herald Harbor Citizens Association "And we've had this happen Hurricane Floyd, Isabel. So we're kind of used to losing power around here."

No injuries have been reported, still a lot of damage to clean up.

More than 14,000 BGE customers lost power during the storm.

That number is now down to about 4,000.
