Thousands Of Unclaimed Stimulus Checks In Md.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

There's almost $30 million in economic stimulus checks still waiting for 97,000 Marylanders to claim.

The problem is many of these people are seniors, disabled people and veterans who, because of low income, have not filed tax returns in years.
They also must file a special form to receive their stimulus checks.

"We are going into different communities, offering free tax preparation services," Joanna Smith-Ramani, director of the Baltimore Cash Campaign, told Richard Sher.

"A lot of people don't realize that the free help is from quality people, all approved by the IRS," said Robin McKinney, director of the Maryland Cash Campaign.

The deadline for filing for the stimulus checks is Oct. 15. For free help, call 1-800-492-0618 and press the number two when prompted.
