School Stabbing Suspect Turns Himself In To Police

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― A middle school turned into a crime scene for several hours Friday, after a 15-year-old student was found fatally stabbed.

Kelly McPherson
reports the suspect turned himself in Friday night.  His name has not been released because he is a minor.

He has since been charged with first-degree murder and several other charges related to the stabbing.

At dismissal Friday afternoon, one student was missing.  Instead of heading home, he was dying from a schoolyard fight.

"This is the worse possible type of news to respond to, to announce," said Dr. Andres Alonso, Baltimore City Schools CEO.

"It hurts that kids want to kill other kids. It's not always good to have bad kids in the school," said one student.

The victim's body was discovered at Lemmel Middle School in the 2800-block of N. Dukeland Street around 1 p.m.

"When the officers got here, they found a 15-year-old male, a student suffering from obvious signs of trauma, said Donny Moses, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.

The victim died at Sinai Hospital a short time later.

The boy was in class Friday morning.  Witnesses say he was in a fight just before he was stabbed.

The mayor says the community needs to step in to prevent these tragedies.

"We have to show our young people other choices when trying to work out differences," said Mayor Sheila Dixon.

Parents agree with the mayor.

"More parents need to spend more time with their children.  Talk to them, explain things to them," said Darnell Finch, father.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim.

Baltimore's Health Commissioner and his staff are working with Lemmel Middle School to provide needed crisis counseling services for children and teachers.  These counseling services will be immediately available Friday night and Saturday.
