Investors hoping to open a biodiesel plant near Hagerstown are still looking for a site but believe they can break ground this summer.
Chesapeake Biodiesel chief executive officer George Robinson says three sites are in contention.
The company plans to extract soybean oil and covert it into biodiesel fuel. The byproduct would be soymeal, which could be fed to livestock.
The company believes it can process 21 million bushels of soybeans annually. That's more than Maryland growers typically produce in a year.
Robinson hopes to begin production by fall 2009 and says the plant will employ about 45 people.
