3 Children Killed By Father In Hotel Identified
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
A popular Inner Harbor hotel is now a crime scene.
Mary Bubala reports three young Maryland children were found dead at the Inner Harbor Marriott Hotel.
Officials say their father told hotel security he killed the children, and then he tried to kill himself.
Police converged on the Inner Harbor Marriott Hotel around 1:15 Sunday afternoon.
The family had been staying on the tenth floor of the hotel.
The father stated that he had killed his children and was planning on doing bodily harm to himself.
They gained access to the room and found the three children dead at the scene, and they also found the gentleman who called had suffered minor injuries that appeared self-inflicted.
The cause of death was not immediately determined, but the police spokesman said they had not been shot or stabbed.
The children have now been identified as 6-year-old Anthony Castillo, 4-year-old Austin Castillo, and 2-year-old Athena Castillo.
All three are from Silver Spring in Montgomery County.
Their father, Mark Castillo, 41, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
There have been very few guests coming in and out of the hotel since the incident. Most say they had no idea about the murders.
Guests say all is quiet inside despite the heavy police presence.
Baltimore City Police spokesman Troy Harris says there's a lot of evidence to process inside the crime scene.
Investigators have already notified the children's mother and say they are still trying to piece together clues.
An online search of Maryland court records showed Mark and Amy Castillo were involved in a child custody dispute.
"See what type of business he had here, all these things will be part of the case as soon as we get more information," said Harris.
Police say they hope to release some of that information when they hold a press conference Monday morning at 9 a.m.
