Transit Slowly Coming Back In Mid-Atlantic, Md.

WASHINGTON (WJZ) ― There's a push to get travel back to normal for area airports, train stations and bus routes.  Jessica Kartalija has more on the problems that still remain nearly three days after this storm hit.

Headed northbound?  You're in luck.  Train service is on track from DC to Boston.  But for trains headed south, service is canceled.

Last weekend's blizzard brought travel to a standstill.

"Very crowded and angry that they haven't gotten out of town yet," said one traveler.

But there's a welcome sight for people leaving out of BWI.

The top floor of the parking garage is completely closed as crews shoveled all of that snow into a giant mound.  Airport officials want to remind you if you are coming out to catch a flight, make sure your flight is running as scheduled.

"Airport parking facilities are open with the further winter weather here in the coming days, I'm encouraging customers to think about parking in one of the airport's garages," said Jonathan Dean.

Airlines are encouraging passengers to re-book canceled flights.

"The airlines brought in a number of flights last night, so this morning, things were up and running pretty well," Dean said.

"So far, I don't think we have any delays.  We were supposed to be going out on Saturday for our honeymoon, go figure.  Now we're leaving today instead," said one traveler.

Bus service around Baltimore is running at 40%.

For these ladies--trying to get to a doctor's appointment--they'll try and take the subway.

"It's not the least--I hope it's going to run on time, but I know there will be some kind of delay," one said.

"Regarding metro, we are going to have service from Owings Mills to Johns Hopkins, as we did today, and we hope to continue that as well.  Light rail, we have service from Hunt Valley to Linthicum.  That will continue to run back and forth and we hope to get to BWI and Cromwell terminals," said MTA Chief Administrator Ralign Wells.

Make sure that your chosen form of public transportation is running before leaving the house.
