St. Mary's Co. Inmate Charged With Pot Smuggling
LEONARDTOWN, Md. (AP) ―
An inmate has been charged with smuggling marijuana into the St. Mary's County jail.
Authorities charged Charles E. Compton Jr., 22, with possession of marijuana, introduction of contraband into a correctional facility and possession with intent to distribute.
They say Compton was assigned to trash pickup at the facility, and in late April tried to pass off a bag of marijuana as rubble.
Corrections officers found the drugs in a routine body search.
Authorities say at least two other people worked with Compton in the scheme.
In June, officials said Compton had consensual sex with Officer Deborah A. Bartholow, who was suspended without pay and served with a criminal summons charging her with sexual contact between a corrections officer and a confined inmate.
