Family Of Slain Reporter Settle With Hospital
WASHINGTON (AP) ―
The grown children of a slain New York Times reporter have made a settlement with Howard University Hospital, ending a suit accusing the facility and D.C. emergency workers of negligence and medical malpractice.
The hospital and two of David Rosenbaum's relatives confirmed the settlement Thursday but provided no details.
Marcus Rosenbaum, a brother of the journalist, when asked if the settlement involved a financial award for the plaintiffs, Dorothy and Daniel Rosenbaum, said, "You wouldn't be wrong to say that it did."
David Rosenbaum, 63, was beaten with a pipe during a mugging near his home in January 2006, days after the longtime reporter in the Times' Washington bureau had retired.
Emergency workers initially believed Rosenbaum was drunk and didn't try to determine whether he was injured, a city report found.
An ambulance driver bypassed the closest hospital and took him to Howard University Hospital, nearly two miles out of the way.
