Investigation Into Slain Family Continues

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ― Nearly one week after a Baltimore County family was murdered execution style, there's still no clear reason why.

A 15-year-old is charged with killing his parents and brothers inside their Cockeysville home.

Mike Hellgren reports the funeral is set for this weekend, and a proposed protest slated to happen at the same time is causing anger.

Newly released pictures show John and Tammy Browning smiling.

Friends and family are still reeling from their murders and those of their two young sons inside their own home.

Their oldest son Nicholas sits in jail charged with the crime.

Police say the teen used his father's gun to shoot his family.

Just days before the Browning's funeral at a church in Lutherville, friends and family learn there will be an unwelcome distraction.

The Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas has planned to protest outside.
This is the same group who protested the Maryland funeral of a Marine, whose father then sued, and was awarded millions of dollars.

"They don't have a right to ruin and tarnish people's last memory of their loved ones," said Albert Snyder, father of the Marine.

Westboro says they chose to picket the Brownings' funeral because they're angry they lost that court case.

Beyond the funeral controversy, many questions at the heart of this case remain unanswered.

What was the motive? How could a teenager with no past record kill his family?

Eyewitness News has learned the confession he gave police was taped. It could provide clues.

Our newspaper partner, The Examiner, reports students riding the bus with Nicholas claim he recently talked about killing his parents, but they never took him seriously.

Jocelyn Hudson was in class with him the day before the murders.

"He looked like a normal kid. He didn't look like he would do anything like that," said Hudson.

For now, Nicholas remains locked up in jail.

The Browning family will be laid to rest on Saturday.
