Officers surrounded a house where shots were fired.
Police forced entry into a house in Northeast Baltimore during a barricade situation Sunday evening, and found a woman dead and a man unconscious.
Mary Bubala reports it started as an assault, but quickly turned into a barricade situation. The situation ended a few hours later with shots fired.
Police first surrounded the house in the 4000-block of Parkside Drive around 9 p.m. Sunday, where shots were fired as officers responded to a domestic assault call.
"The officers attempted to enter the house, at which time an unidentified male fired a weapon multiple times," said Donny Moses, Baltimore Police spokesperson.
Moses says when officers heard shots inside the house, they backed off and formed a perimeter around it.
The SWAT team entered the home and found a woman shot to death and a man unconscious. She has been identified as 41-year-old Dawn M. Williams-Stewart.
Police believe the man may have tried to hang himself. They say the man and woman had two young children together.
"The two children were taken out of the house prior to SWAT making an entry and finding the lady deceased and the male unconscious," said Moses.
The two children are with relatives.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital. His name and condition has not been released.
