Md. Proposes State Holiday To Honor Indians

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) ―

It's already a state holiday. Now one Maryland lawmaker wants to designate the day after Thanksgiving a state holiday to honor American Indians.

Delegate Talmadge Branch, a Baltimore Democrat, says the designation would be an appropriate honor for American Indians.

Branch says his idea wouldn't cost any money because the date is already a holiday for state employees, though it has no name.

Branch says that most people call the day after Thanksgiving Black Friday, but that the American Indian designation would be an improvement.

He says other states are considering the designation.

Branch introduced his bill Tuesday.
