Police: Md. Officer Kills Shooting Suspect

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―

A Frederick city police officer shot and killed a suspect who pointed a gun at him after wounding another man, the department said Tuesday.

Officer Daniel Sullivan, a four-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave until officials finish an internal investigation into the death, police said.

Sullivan shot Frederick resident Bradley J. Bailey, 46, outside his apartment building shortly after Bailey shot another man in the left shoulder inside the apartment, police said in a news release.

Neighbors called police to the Sunset Walk apartments around 4:30 p.m., where officers found the victim in a courtyard. They then met Bailey, who pointed a handgun at Sullivan and refused to drop it, police said.

Sullivan fired four times. One of the bullets hit Bailey in the head and killed him, police said.

It was the second fatal shooting by a city police officer this year. On July 22, officer Frank Rucci shot David J. Bauman, 52, of Frederick after Bauman approached Rucci's patrol car and refused to drop a hammer. A grand jury has yet to consider evidence in that case.
