1 Of 2 Suspects Shot Dead In Attempted Robbery
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
Police respond to a shooting in Baltimore City.
Weijia Jiang reports the crime scene at Joe's Garage on Wabash Avenue is identical to one back in August 2002. What's even more chilling, so is the reason why.
The suspect slash victim entered the establishment attempting to rob the store owner.
In both incidents, police say garage owner Joe Goldman whipped out a handgun and shot the would-be robber to death.
After the first time six years ago, friends told
WJZ Golden would do it again if he had to.
"Anybody around this way knows he will protect himself, and he's no pushover," said a friend.
People who live in the area say they're not that surprised that this happened again because Joe only takes cash, and anyone who's gotten gas at the garage know that.
"If I come here and get some gas, he'll pull out a roll of money, give me change, and that's not good. That's not good. He don't do credit card, he just do cash only," said neighbor Wilton Harrison.
In July,
WJZ met with Goldman because he was offering the lowest priced gas around.
Neighbors are saddened because Goldman's goodwill could have triggered the attacks.
"People always trying because he always works alone. He's a nice guy. He keeps the gas prices you know reasonable for all of us in the neighborhood," said Anthony Nichols.
Police are still looking for a second suspect.
