Bail Denied For Teen Charged In City Stabbing

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― A judge orders a teenage girl to be held without bail. She is charged as an adult with a brazen, violent crime. Police arrested her Thursday.

The stabbing left two people injured on the light rail tracks at Howard and Fayette Streets downtown back on May 7.

Mike Hellgren reports the fight shut down the light rail near Lexington Market and created chaos at the busy Howard and Fayette intersection.

Charging documents obtained by Eyewitness News credit the video of the fight shown on WJZ with helping witnesses to identify the teenagers.

The terrifying moments could be heard and seen on tape as a person in a green shirt ran into the fight holding a sharp object. Police say it's a knife.

She held it up, then it appears she plunged the weapon into the victim, hitting her just inches from her spine.

Another victim required dozens of stitches.

On Thursday, police arrested 15-year-old Sharee Carter and charged her with attempted murder and assault. She faces life in prison.

In court Friday, Carter, who has no prior arrest record, was charged as an adult.

The judge denied Carter's bail saying, "These are frightening allegations, and I can only conclude that she is a risk to public safety."

Another teen, Chifonne Frazier, is also charged with attempted murder in the case. Police say she held the victim's hair while she was stabbed.

Investigators have not revealed what started the fight.

In a past interview with WJZ, the president of the Downtown Partnership called the violence rare in an area that's being revitalized by new development.

"This type of imagery is not something that's at all typical of downtown Baltimore. This is a startling occurrence in downtown Baltimore."

Police believe Carter was also involved in a stabbing that happened four days before the one caught on tape.

It unfolded in Cherry Hill. Investigators say Carter stabbed the victim six times and claim the victim knew Carter.

The 15-year-old's family has hired a private attorney to represent her. For now, Carter will remain locked up at the city detention center.
