Howard County Police Look For Sex Offense Suspect
HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ―
A day of shopping turned frightening for a 14-year-old girl and her grandmother. Police say a man fondled the girl and exposed himself in the middle of a department store before taking off.
Kelly McPherson has more on the person the police are looking for.
"I think it's awful. It's terrible," said Rebecca Kirby.
Howard County shoppers are learning about a sex offense that happened in a local department store.
The victim helped police with this sketch. She says he only spoke Spanish when he kissed her hand, fondled her and exposed himself inside the store.
"It's hard to believe, though in this day and age, it's not really surprising," said Ros Markiewicz.
"The girl was in the store shopping when the man approached her. She told our officers that he touched her inappropriately and also exposed himself to her," said Sherry Llewellyn, Howard County police spokesperson.
The girl's grandmother approached and that's when the man ran off. Witnesses tell police they did see him running through the parking lot.
"That's scary," Markiewicz said.
"Keep a good eye on your kids, make sure you're not turning away from them," Kirby said.
"Fortunately, we've only had one case reported like this. We're hoping to avoid any future cases by identifying the suspect early," Llewellyn said.
The man is in his 30s or 40s.
Detectives are offering a reward for help in this case. If you have any information, please call Howard County police at
