State health officials say layoffs at the Rosewood Center will begin in January as the facility for developmentally disabled adults prepares to close.
State health officials say layoffs at the Rosewood Center will begin in January as the facility for developmentally disabled adults prepares to close.
Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary John Colmers announced the layoffs Saturday, saying his department is working to find other state jobs for employees.
State officials decided last year to close the more than 100-year-old facility in Owings Mills.
Of 295 employees at the facility, the department says 88 will be laid off in mid-January and the rest will be laid off between January and June 30, when the facility closes. The department is allowing other agencies to hire these workers despite a statewide hiring freeze.
Since January, more than 50 of the 166 residents housed at the facility and about 200 workers have left.
