A lawyer for the Prince George's County jail guards on duty when an inmate was apparently strangled in his cell in June says her clients did not have anything to do with the death.
Clothilda Harvey of the Correctional Officers Association said county officials have "rushed to judgment" in labeling the death a homicide. She predicted investigators will either find the cause of death for Ronnie L. White inconclusive or determine that he committed suicide.
The 19-year-old White was found dead June 29, two days after he was charged in the hit-and-run death of a county police officer.
The state medical examiner's office issued a preliminary ruling the next day that White's death was a homicide and county officials said White had been strangled in the solitary confinement cell.
