Robert McKee, a Republican, resigned from the House of Delegates after the search.
It's been six months since investigators searched the home and seized the computer of a western Maryland lawmaker during a child pornography investigation, and still, no charges have been filed against Robert McKee.
But authorities and experts say that's not unusual in federal investigations, particularly those involving computer crimes.
Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore says federal prosecutors have been negotiating a possible plea deal with McKee's attorney.
He says such negotiations can take more than a year.
Mullendore says the investigation alone took about four months.
McKee, a Republican, resigned from the House of Delegates after the search.
He had served in the House since 1995, representing Washington County, and was chair of the western Maryland delegation.
He said the search was "deeply embarrassing" and that he had entered treatment.
