Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Pregnant Woman

LAUREL, Md. (AP) ― A Maryland man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a pregnant woman in Laurel last year.

State prosecutors say 48-year-old Robert Headley admitted to killing 21-year-old Christen Hawkins last Memorial Day. Her body was found on a path behind the Laurel municipal swimming pool along the Patuxent River. Hawkins, of Jessup, had been stabbed multiple times.

Hawkins had been seen getting into her mother's SUV with Headley on Memorial Day. Police say Headley was driving the vehicle when he was arrested in Frederick.

Officials say his sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 7. He faces a maximum of 40 years in prison.
