Family Of 14-Year-Old Shot By Police Speaks Out

Police say the officer is a hero, saving a student as he was being held up, but the family of the 14-year-old suspect says it's the officer who should go to jail.
Kelly McPherson spoke with the teen's sisters.
The family admits Charles Kelly has been in trouble before -- arrested at age nine and again a few months ago, but they say mugging a medical student this week was not deserving of getting shot in the stomach.
The officer shot Kelly Wednesday night suspecting him of attempting to rob a medical student using a gun.
"As the officer approached, the victim warned the officer that the suspect had a weapon," said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "The suspect turned toward the officer. The officer fired two shots."
Hit once in the stomach, the boy remains at Shock Trauma.
His sisters are now angry after their brother, from his hospital bed, said the officer was in the wrong.
"He couldn't talk, but he was alert. He nodded his head; I said are you in any pain, he nodded his head no. I said are you okay? He nodded his head yeah" said Shawntrice Kelly, sister. "I said, tell me did you drop that gun when the police said drop the gun? He nodded his head yeah."
Baltimore City Police say when they got to the scene, Kelly was holding the gun to the students neck and refused to drop the gun when asked by police. That's when the officer fired his weapon.
"The officer should be arrested and charged for shooting him unlawfully," said Shawntay Kelly, sister.
The family's outrage increased Friday when they couldn't visit the boy who is under police watch as a suspect.
"It's just confusing. My mother, today she tried to commit suicide. She tried to jump off one of the buildings down here by the University Hospital," said Shawntrice.
City police say the unnamed acted like a hero, possibly saving the life of the student.
Charles Kelly's family says he was using a BB gun to scare the victim not shoot him.
Another issue brought up by the family is witnesses who heard three, not two gunshots as the department has stated.
University and Citiwatch cameras may have captured the shooting which would clear up what really happened.
Baltimore City Police Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
