Suspect In Md. Break-Ins Arrested In Fla.

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) ― State police say a man suspected of breaking into five Carroll County homes has been arrested in Florida and could be returned to Maryland by the end of the week.

Police say 26-year-old Phillip Cox broke into five Manchester homes last month and was arrested Thursday in Umatilla, Fla.

Detective Sgt. Jim DeWees says 18-year-old Jay Anderson of Manchester has been charged with burglary, malicious destruction of property and theft of more than $500 in the break-ins and is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center. DeWees says Cox faces similar charges.

Three of the burglaries occurred within a 12-hour span April 21.

Police say Anderson's father called police after he found items in the bedroom Cox had been using at his house that may belong to neighbors.
