Police Investigate Fatal Road Rage Incident

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Baltimore City police continue to investigate the brazen road rage incident that left two people dead, including a 16-year-old girl.

Mike Hellgren reports Baltimore police have made no arrests in the incident that left the victim's car filled with bullet holes.

No weapon has been found so far in what is being called a case of extreme road rage.

Police identified Edward Tyree Baylor, 32, from Harford County and Rebecca Meekins, 16, from Dundalk as the two who died.

It happened Wednesday night.  Baylor and Meekins were inside a white Ford on North Avenue.

There was a dispute with two men in a Volkswagen Jetta, and the cars turned down Mount Royal Avenue.  That's when someone in the Jetta fired a gun several times.

Two teenagers were also in the Ford, but survived.

A witness says she heard gunshots and rushed outside.

"They were in the backseat passenger victims, and they had left the vehicle. And I'm assuming it's because whoever had fired the shots, they were afraid for themselves. I think she said like, 'We just cut them off. We just cut them off, and they chased us down,'" said the witness.

Maryland has seen several violent road rage incidents in recent months.

"People are really getting hurt. We're losing people to these crashes. We're having people injured as a result of this," said an officer.

Baltimore ranked 15th worst for road rage in a survey of hundreds of drivers.

One doctor says that anger is a sign of a psychological problem called intermittent explosive disorder.

"The symptoms are basically several episodes, usually in a year, where you either blow up, hit people or do damage," said Dr. Emil Coccaro.

In this most recent case, a priority for police is the search for the shooter. The green Jetta has been recovered.

Several bills introduced in the state legislature would toughen penalties against drivers who commit road rage.
