Prince George's County Police are concentrating on the cause of the school bus accident in Riverdale.
Police have released new information about the driver of a Prince George's County School bus that flipped over.
The accident happened in Riverdale and sent 44 middle schoolers to the hospital.
Alex DeMetrick reports while the first concern was to get the injured students to the hospital, Prince George's County Police are now concentrating on the cause of Wednesday's school bus accident in Riverdale.
The bus driver, 46-year-old Antonio Nate Robinson, was cited for speeding and negligent driving. That' something at least one student alleges she saw before.
While 44 students and the driver were treated for bumps and bruises, complaints about Antonio Robinson have apparently not been made to school board headquarters.
"He had a good driving record for approximately the last 10 years. We felt with training he could be a very responsible driver. And he did receive training as all our drivers do," said John White, Prince George's Co. Schools spokesperson.
But records show Robinson has been ticketed five times in the past, including speeding and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. His last violation was back in 1992.
Over the past three years, Prince George's County School buses have been involved in 478 preventable accidents, ranging from mostly minor to the scale of Wednesday's.
School administrators plan to first meet with Robinson and hear what he has to say, before deciding on any disciplinary action. If found guilty of the citations, the bus driver faces fines of $400 and six points on his driver's license.
