A four-year-old boy wandering a highway rest stop in Ohio was spotted by a Maryland couple and it's what he told them that's making headlines across the country.
Dennis Edwards spoke with the Parkton couple who found the little boy who says he saw his mother murdered.
After confessing to police, the man little Will Nelson described in detail is in custody, charged with aggravated murder. That amazing little boy is still very much on the minds of the Maryland couple who came to his rescue.
Judy and Mike McConnell were driving back to Baltimore after taking furniture to their children in Colorado, when they pulled into an Ohio rest stop.
"I saw this little boy just standing there, just looking out the window," Judy said.
The little boy was four-year-old Will Nelson, dressed in a T-shirt, sweatpants and socks.
"So I just happened to take my hand and waved to him and then when I went in, I said, `How ya doing?' and then he opened up to me," she said.
It seems the child decided Judy was the right person to tell his tragic story to.
Michael McConnell was asleep in the car when Judy and Will knocked on the window. He called 911 after learning more about the boy's ordeal. He said that he was taken from his home and that a man shot his mother.
"He said it was a tall, skinny white guy with short hair and no mustache or beard. This kid was totally switched on," Michael McConnell said.
The information led police to Will's Dayton home. They found his 29-year-old mother Jennifer dead of multiple gunshot wounds. Will's description helped identify 29-year-old Charlie Myers, who police say confessed to dropping the boy at the rest stop after killing his mother.
The arrest is a source of relief for the McConnells, but they're hoping it's the beginning of closure for the boy's family.
Will is with his father after providing key information that clearly helped police apprehend the suspect.
