Matt Birk: 'Playing For Baltimore Is A Blessing'

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Matt Birk is the man who will snap the ball to quarterback Joe Flacco next season. He's been a NFL Pro Bowl selection six times with the Minnesota Vikings.

Ron Matz has more on the newest Baltimore Raven who says it all starts with family.

Matt Birk majored in economics at Harvard.  He'll get to know the number five well. He's the new starting center for the Baltimore Ravens.

"I feel extremely blessed to have this opportunity. Just the way it has worked out, to be able to come here to Baltimore and be a Raven, I'm certainly thankful for it. I never take this opportunity for granted," he said.

Matt earned Pro Bowl honors six times with the Minnesota Vikings. He'll begin his 12th year in the NFL as a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

Matt has been married to his wife Adrianna for seven years.

"We have four little ones. My oldest is six, my youngest is nine months and three girls. It's really fun," Adrianna said.

Matt is looking forward to working with quarterback Joe Flacco.

"Joe Flacco was fantastic on the field last year, but his character, as a person, people speak very highly of him. We actually have the same agent, so I've heard quite a bit about him and look forward to working with him," he said.

The Birks will soon settle in Baltimore.  They say they are looking forward to the change.

"I grew up in Minnesota, so we haven't moved. Both of us were born there. It will be a change, but it will be a good one," Adrianna said.

Matt Birk was the Vikings' Ed Block Courage Award winner in 2006. He's actively involved in raising money for retired NFL players.
