Flacco Makes Positive First Impression On Ravens

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) ―

Quarterback Joe Flacco endured a steady rain during his first day on the job at the Ravens' mandatory minicamp Friday.

Wearing a red jersey with the No. 5, the 6'6" rookie from the University of Delaware set out to prove he's worthy of the 18th overall pick in the NFL draft and capable of starting in his first season.

The first hurdle Flacco encountered was getting over the sense of awe that comes with being alongside some of the finest players in his profession.

It might take a while before Flacco becomes entirely comfortable being around Ray Lewis, one of the most intimidating players in the league, a standout linebacker who makes a living chasing down quarterbacks.

The competition among Flacco, Kyle Boller and Troy Smith will begin in earnest during training camp this summer.

Now, all three are merely trying to get comfortable with a new head coach, John Harbaugh, a new offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, and an unfamiliar playbook.
