Baltimore Police Look For Sexual Predator

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Baltimore City Police are searching for a sexual predator.

Kelly McPherson reports the suspect is in his 30s and apparently preys on women as they're leaving their cars and opening the doors to their homes.

Police say a woman was walking home from a grocery store in the 2200- block of St. Paul Street Wednesday night when the man allegedly walked up from behind.

He is roughly 5'9", medium build, what police call well spoken, wearing a blue T-shirt and black cotton gloves, a white face mask and armed with a handgun.

"He takes the women into a common area once gaining entry into the dwelling, usually an apartment building, and then the sexual assault takes place," said Nicole Monroe with Baltimore City Police.

Almost two months earlier, a man matching the same description approached a woman in the 2600-block of St. Paul. He forced her into a nearby stairway, attempted to rape her but was scared off by a neighbor.

Police believe both incidents are related. They call the suspect armed and dangerous.

Nicole Wooden lives nearby. She's naturally worried, but plans to stay aware.

"To be careful and aware of my surroundings. If I see anything suspicious or anything out of place just to let someone know," said Wooden.

Since these incidents, detectives have been investigating this. Of course patrols have stepped up in the area, but we still want women to be vigilant," said Monroe.

Police believe there is a good possibility someone in the Mount Royal area knows the suspect.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Baltimore Police Department's Sex Offense Unit at 410-396-2076.
