Carroll Board Member Admits Using Racial Slur
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) ―
Carroll County school board member Jeff Morse has admitted using an inappropriate racial slur during a visit to the Manchester Valley High School construction site.
He says he used a racial term to describe layers of black rock being removed by a contractor. Morse says the remark was "bad" and "stupid."
County schools Superintendent Charles Ecker says he received a complaint about the comment from the staff members who were with Morse.
Ecker says the board has taken appropriate action, but he says he is prevented by privacy laws from describing that action in detail.
Morse was appointed to his seat last year by Gov. Martin O'Malley and is running for re-election in November. He says he has apologized personally to the staff members.
