A 30-year-old woman had to be lifted out of the woods by helicopter near Prettyboy Reservoir in Baltimore County.
Kelly McPherson was there for the dramatic rescue, the first for Baltimore County responders.
It took more than a dozen rescue workers to pull out 30-year-old Sarah Harvey from a dense, wooded area near the reservoir.
Sky Eye Chopper 13 captured the rescue, the first with a new hoist on the county's helicopter.
For two weeks, emergency workers had been training on the sometimes difficult equipment.
That preparation paid off for Sarah Harvey. Her anxious parents watched as she soared over the trees, dam and water.
"We were amazed at that also. Everybody responded here," said David Rodney. "We're grateful for that."
Earlier in the day, Sarah and her dog, Norman, were out on the hiking trails.
"It is rugged and you have to be careful when you're down there," said Bud Schaefer, who's lived nearby for 20 years.
"She called me up and said, `I'm in a pickle.' I said, `What's the problem?' She said, `I'm out at Prettyboy Dam and I'm on a rock and I can't move.' She apparently was trying to pick the dog up out of the water," said Susan Rodney.
It's unclear what happened to her back, but first responders decided to bring in the chopper in order to safely move Harvey into an ambulance.
The rescue could have been much more difficult with all of this terrain, but rescue workers had two things helping them out. One, Sarah Harvey's cell phone had a GPS device on it and two, her dog kept barking.
There was a second rescue just a few hours later.
Fire officials say a couple was seriously injured when they fell about 50 feet from a rock outcropping at Patapsco Valley State Park.
The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Monday, according to Fire Department spokeswoman Elise Armacost. The couple was sitting on the outcropping in a remote area of the park overlooking the Patapsco River, Armacost said, when the woman stood up, slipped, and her male companion grabbed her. They both fell about 50 feet.
A team of doctors from Shock Trauma was flown to the scene and treated the couple. The victims were flown to Shock Trauma in critical condition, Armacost says.
