Final Preps Underway For 133rd Preakness Stakes

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― It's the 133rd running of one of the most prestigious horse races in the country.

Jessica Kartalija reports they were getting ready in the heart of Baltimore Friday, despite the rain.

"The rain kind of gave us a curve ball even though we were expecting it. The track itself takes a little more of a beating. You're always a little concerned when it is a wet surface. But we understand the rain is going to stop, and we're going to be good for the race. With the wind, it actually helps dry it faster, so we expect it to be fast all day tomorrow," said one race official.

So how is WJZ's Marty Bass planning to choose a winner?

"You take feathers and chicken bones, you say a few incantations, you throw them up in the air and they hopefully come down not lying," said Bass.

If the weather cooperates, there could be record crowds.   Officials are expecting more about 120,000 people.

Events begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.  The race will go on rain or shine.
