Pope Will Make First Visit To U.S.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― On this Ash Wednesday, the talk at the Baltimore Basilica is of the Pope's visit to the U.S.

Jessica Kartalija reports though he won't be here for another two months, the chance to see him has already come and gone.

Catholic parishioners celebrate Ash Wednesday and the first day of Lent,  but for many their thoughts are on Pope Benedict and his very first trip to America.

"We are very privileged to have him come to the United States, this year of our 200th anniversary of our archdiocese and the four other dioceses that were born from us.  It is very important for the people of Baltimore," said Archbishop Edwin O'Brien.

He will celebrate mass in Washington, D.C. April 17.  An official Archdiocesan bus will take parishioners to New York City for mass on April 20.

Tickets to see the Pope in D.C. and New York were available on the archdiocese's Web site, but they sold out in less than an hour.

If you did request tickets but were unable to get them, you will be put on a waiting list.

This is the first time Pope Benedict will visit the U.S.
